Kyrann Thompson was born in Mexico, Missouri, in 1981, the third daughter and youngest of four children. She always loved reading and writing short stories, a hobby strongly encouraged by both her mother and maternal grandmother.
Kyrann attended public school through high school, where she played volleyball for three years. She graduated in 2000 and began attending classes at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana, that same year. While at Valpo, she held numerous jobs, including research assistant for the Astronomy department and lab assistant for the Geography and Meteorology departments, culminating in a position as Resident Assistant her senior year. In 2004, she earned her B.S. in Environmental Science and Chemistry with a minor in Physics.
While at university, Kyrann met the love of her life and married in 2004. After university, her husband joined the Navy, and the couple traveled across the country from one base to another. She briefly worked as a research assistant for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and later as a bookseller for Barnes & Noble. It was here that Kyrann’s love for books was rekindled, and the idea of becoming a writer blossomed.
After 13 years, her husband separated from the Navy, and the family settled down in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. During this time, Kyrann decided to hone her writing by attending graduate school. In 2020, she earned an M.A. in English and Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University and was inducted into Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society.
Kyrann currently lives in North Carolina with her husband and two children. She has been a member of the Pacific Northwest Writers’ Association since 2023 and both the Horror Writers Association and the Association of Writers and Writing Programs since 2025.
